Mutiny on the Bounty (1935)
Mutiny on the Bounty won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1935. Irving Thalberg was its producer and Clark Gable was his choice for Fletcher Christian, the mutineer on the H.M.S. Bounty. Charles Laughton and Franchot Tone were already cast when Thalberg decided on Gable. But Gable objected to the role. He did not want to shave his moustache, wear a pigtail or silly knickers. He objected to the character, seeing him as a dandy. Besides that, he could not stand actor Charles Laughton. Gable also felt that his American voice would sound flat against the other British players. Finally Gable gave into Thalberg's decision and the film turned out to be a huge success in his career. Movita was Gable's love interest.
