Gable was still the King of Hollywood during the 1950s, a little more mature and older, but still sexy. He held his own against the new crop of male stars such as Burt Lancaster, Gregory Peck, Kirk Douglas, William Holden, Rock Hudson and Marlon Brando. His leading ladies, such as Grace Kelly, Susan Hayward, Jane Russell, Yvonne de Carlo, Doris Day and Marilyn Monroe, were also younger than he was but his romantic appeal and chemistry was still intact.
